I might not be as cute as the day you saw me and picked me up in the pet shop.
No more of those innocent eyes and bouncing around that makes the whole family laughs.
But what I want for X'mas .................... is love.
I do not need all your time in the world.
When I call out to you when you come home from work, please do not ask me to - shut up.
When I jump at you to want to kiss you, please do not "shoo" me away.
Please let me wait outside the bathroom door when you are showering.
Can you please pat me a little when I come over to you while you are watching TV?
Can you bring me out for a walk once in a while because I'd love to see the sun too.
Sometimes, when you look at me just for a while, it's enough to make me happy.
I get very sad when I "call out to you" to tell you something but you yelled at me, "Quiet you naughty boy!".
I'd rather you shout at me or even punish me than to ignore me totally for days.
Please......I love you and I hope to be loved by you too........even when I am old and ugly......I did not choose to be a dog.

Why?
Why would a person get into the pet industry if he/she does not like pet?
Why would a pet shop owner wanna put a pet to sleep if it can't be sold?
Why must a pet shop owner adopt a "charitable" and not "profitable" thinking?
Why is it that a business gets attacked online and the proprietor does not even bother to reply?
Why is it that some customers are so eager to attack businesses online with their one-sided stories?
Why some self proclaimed "Animal Lovers" only love their own pets?
Why some people love their pets so much but refuse to feed them with better food or supplement?
Why is it a pet shop can be around for so many years while others can't?
Why must a pet shop owner do things that customers like to see but might not be good for the pets?

Rich ex-customer
Once, I had a very rich customer.
The family had been following us for a couple of years since they bought their first dog from us. Things started to change over the years. They started to compare prices between my shop and other pet shops. Being a consumer myself, I've always tried to keep the prices of my products as low as possible but due to different distribution patterns from the distributors, pet shops can be charged differently for the similar item. I can sell products cheap but I can't guarantee that all my products are the cheapest in Singapore.
The said customer quibbled with us over a few cents or dollars being one who owns many properties, businesses and luxury transport machines. I surrendered. I am too small to handle such a "big" client. I can't read their mind. However, through these people I learnt to be a good customer myself. I constantly remind myself not to be a nasty customer and understand the fact that everyone is making a living. Who does not want to earn more money. If the said customer did not earn "big" profits from the things they sell to their customers, where did their money come from. People who knew me knows that I do not like to bargain much, not because I'm stupid. I like to leave good impressions with people and that makes me a happier and better person.
And oh yes..........the said customer has since stopped buying stuff from me.

Dogs & ticks
Once a while, we get customers who send in dogs for grooming with hidden ticks. The problem is, they refused to admit that their dogs are infested with ticks simply because they do not want to have their homes labelled "dirty". Often we hear excuses like we washed our house very thoroughly and I trust that my maid groomed my dog frequently. What - maid again ??? sigh........
At many time, these doggies are so untouched and covered with thick entangled fur, our groomers felt so sorry for them. Being a groomer, I can't wait to take away the tangled fur and rid the dogs off their sufferings. When the layers of tangled fur come falling to the ground with the metropolitan of ticks, I can't hold back the feeling of "shiok" and sometimes the indulgence of the "shiokness" cause me to drool uncontrollably.
We happily send the doggies home and hope that the owners will enjoy the new clean look which they could have forgotten over past the months.
After a couple of days, the owner suddenly stumbled upon the doggy which he had neglected and spotted something on it's body. Something so alien that he does not even know what they are until the "faithful" maid told him that those are "ticks". The angry owner grabbed his mobile phone and started to dial the pet shop immediately. He started shooting at the first voice he heard over the other side of the phone. He blames the pet shop for "planting ticks" on his dog after the grooming session.
Now, ticks are scavengers. They will go look for your dog and if that happens, it does not mean that your house is dirty. It's like if you get stung by mosquito, it does not mean that you did not clean your house properly or you are dirty. You do not need to bring you pet out for them to be infested with ticks. It takes an unnoticed tick to lay eggs to infest your house with thousands of ticks. It is quite impossible for the pet shops to cause your dog to have many ticks just over the span of a few days because the eggs take sometime to hatch. Eggs could have been laid way before - by a single tick. Pet shops always get the blame simply because human never like to admit mistakes. Owners tend to point their fingers to others for causing things happening to their pets. In my past 14 years of experience in this industry, I've seen too many of such cases. I'm numb to it now.
Owners need not worry. There are many products to eliminate fleas and ticks efficiently and quickly. Products such as tick sprays and spot-on medications are readily available at many pet shops. Just make sure the pet shop owners know how to teach you to use them correctly and the tick problem should be solved in about 2 months or so without having to engage pest control's services.
